"He did not paint his model solely from the outside, he identified himself with them, and thus painted them as if he were doing his own portrait", his son filmmaker Jean Renoir defined the painter´s attitude in which intimacy is implicit.

 

 

 

In contrast to Monet´s "purely visual" painting, Renoir appeals to the spectator´s tactile imagination: "I like paintings which make me want to wander through them when it´s a landscape, or to run my hand over a back, if it´s a woman figure".
